First Series - June 2005
Tranquility Vase
A whimsical title for a piece which speaks for itself. In this image, the flame fractal has
effectively erased the source photograph texture, keeping only soft color tones from it.
Print #1 of 20 was auctioned to benefit the Epilepsy Foundation.
Sold to Ken Thoma for an undisclosed amount.

Eolian Woodah
Eolian refers to deposits which are arranged by the wind, much as these images are formed
by the flame fractal which rearranges the photo montage. Woodah is an aboriginal
term for a wooden club, and was at one time mistaken as a synonym for boomerang. The photo
montage for this image includes finished honey oak, mahogany, and cherry? from a Pathe'
Victrola.
Horn Rings
Another piece where the original image has been thoroughly rearranged by the fractal. Fine
texture permeates the flowing quadrilaterally symmetric image.

Images of stained glass and mahogany contribute their colors and textures to this folded
liquid shape.

Modiolus San Onofre
Horse mussel and a breaking wave formed like a spiral shell.
Eventide Pommel
Hues of a brilliant sunset were used as the basis for the striking contrasts in this image.
Code Twist
Snippets of the actual program which generated the image appear within the image itself.
Martian Wisp and Martian Wisp 2
Colors taken from an image of the red planet - shapes are unstable chaotic oscillators with a large range relative to their randomness. Hints of the classic Lorenz attractor are showing, which is remarkable for these one dimensional series to imitate a three dimensional form.
Magic Lamp
Desert Djinni smoke formed into a surrealistic impression of an oil lamp.
Funnel Bowl
A self contined shape, with a vortex and rippled outer bowl, spinning the texture of a rocky pillar into another form.
Misty Mountain
Images from Cheaha (Native American for "a high place") on a morning when the clouds were lower than the land - which happens commonly there.
Neopolitan Convolution
My toddler's first ice-cream cone is re-shaped to an abstract form.
Proof
A working title which has stuck... Rich colors and a double loop shape that re-forms the textures of the source photograph, while preserving streaks of the original.
Hat Trance
Impression of a comical 15 gallon Stetson, formed with two transformations of a desert cliff overlaid on each other.
Vitreous Spring
The blue spring photograph from which this was taken had no waves - the fractal transformation has brought chaotic ripples and flows to the tranquil water.
Sylvan Flow
Photo from the bottom of a very old sink-hole, reformed into a flowing texture of leaves and other forms.

Siesta Strand
A kaliedoscope view of a rocky shoreline is warped by chaotic wavy patterns.
Biscayne Lounge
A cozy tropical room in a comfortable chair under a palm tree.
Atlantic Flask
An otherwise calm ocean being swirled and bottled, with difficulty.
Surging Breaker
Planetary rings, dynamic self-similarity, and distinct coloration define this complex, yet ordered chaotic oscillation.
